This is my HOLY GRAIL of moisturizers. I know this sounds weird but I had been using this since I was about 13 years old. I stopped using it for a looong time, and I've been getting zits ever since and it JUST hit me that this could have been what my skin loved so much. All of the moisturizers I used after trying this just gave me more occasional pimples and made my skin really oily. I remember when I was using this I didn't even have to wash my face in the morning because it wasn't oily, once I stopped using it my face became oilier and oilier. I haven't used this for YEARS and I regret it. I'm going out to buy one ASAP!!
I've gone through at least 5 of these bottles and been through at least 3 times that they've changed the packaging and it just gets better and better.
The summers where I live are SO hot and gross, and just make my skin even oilier than usual. PLEASE, go get a sample of this or give it a try. You won't regret it!!

If you have oily skin, particulary on the nose, forehead, and chin, this is a great LOTION to use under make-up. I stress lotion because I cannot say there is anything moisturizing about this stuff. In fact, they call it oil controlling lotion. Do not expect to use this as a moisturizer.
That is why I only use this product under make-up. I don't wear make-up every day and usually I moisturize in the morning and don't care if I look shiny. When I want to do a really nice make-up job, I wear this underneath because it does prevent shine.
I bought this because in all my most recent holiday pictures I noticed I was shiny. I think it is mostly due to the fact that I wear moisturizer, no foundation, and bare minerals powder over moisturizer, which actually seems to bring out more oil in my t-zones. The day I bought this I used it that night under the same make-up and took pictures at a birthday celebration - and no shine. Particularly matte on my nose where I get the most oil.
Here is the thing - I caution you because this is somewhat drying on my cheeks. It definitely feels tight on the parts of my face that are not oily. I'm almost tempted to see how it would work if I only used it on my t-zone and just moisturized the rest of my face and see how my make-up looks on top of it.
The bottle is not a problem for me. I suppose it might be when I get to the end and am trying to shake out the very last drop, but as it is I like that the bottle only shakes out a little on my fingers because a little does cover the whole face, so it goes a long way.
The smell is definitely unique. It's somewhat earthy, maybe mushroom or patchouli-esque. At first I hated it but it has come to grow on me. At least it makes you feel like you're putting something natural on your face.
In any case, I don't feel like I have to go looking for a "better" product than this one to suit the purposes I bought it for. I use it on my t-zones when I want my make-up to look good over it and be matte. Mission accomplished.

The bottle is ridiculous! It's very inconvenient. The product wasn't mattifying, but it smelled nice (a "botanical" scent) :) haha

oh how to put this ... i love it .. i hate it. that sums it up. the bottle sucks, but isnt a deal breaker, just makes getting the product out really annoying. i love this stuff because i have found nothing else like it. ive tried high end and low end matte moisturizers (damn you ahava) and nothing feels quite like this. its runny, spreads like a dream, melts in like a dream. feels like water drying on skin, but still hydrates well. for oily skins that is, on a drier skin im not sure. however, it doesnt stop oil at all. i feel like im doing something good for my skin (like the person below me), because im moisturizing and the ingredients are great .. but i think my skin would be the same with or without it. i am trying other matte moisturizers and primers, but if i ever run out of one, i'll buy this again simply because its the best ive found. but its only a light moisturizer that feels matte (at first). iver tried primers and dermalogicas matte stuff, and ahava, boscia, and this stuff wins. bah.

I've used this moisturizer for almost 2 weeks and it works well. Usually my skin will be super shiny after an hour or so of applying makeup but this helps keep my oiliness under control for about 4-5 hours. BUT theres too many cons to keep using this moisturizer. First of all, it has a nasty smell to it like the review says below (kind of like an old, damp rag). Also, it has no spf which is a big downer for me. I'll use this until I find a better moisturizer.

TERRIBLE!!! The glass bottle doesn't allow for the product to be dispensed appropriately. It kind of has a sour rag or sour mop kind of smell! But most importantly...your skin is OILIER after using this product. Total waste of money!

This lotion is great for oily girls like me. It's hard to find a moisturizer that keeps oil in check but isn't powdery and still moisturizes decently. My skin needs a very light moisturizer since my skin will produce it's own oils by the end of the day. Most moisturizers I have tried for oily skin are not matte enough or it leaves a weird powdery residue that I hate. Other moistuizers are just simply too oily for my skin. I like that this consistency is a little runny because it's easy to use only a dab on each cheek and forehead because it easily spreads and sinks right in. This is the lightest feeling moisturizer I have ever used. I am impressed because this really gives me a matte but not dry looking complexion. And I love all the natural ingredients in it, I feel like I'm doing something good for my skin. I haven't broken out and I've been using it for about 3 weeks and I'm very acne-prone. The amount you get doesn't look like a lot but since I use so little I know it'll last me a while. I wasn't crazy about the small glass bottle because it seemed like I would be struggling to get the lotion out but since it's got a thin, light consistency, the lotion comes right out.

I have really shiny skin and adult acne. I've been looking for a really long time for a mattifyng moisturizer and this is the one!
I've tried almost everyting else on the market, and this is the only one that keeps me matte all morning long! I have to blot only at noon, compared to an hour after cleansing my skin like I usually do.
I tried Kiehl's Blue moisturizer recently since I love their Tea Tree Toner, but no... nothing compared to Matte Scientist!

I hate to use moisturizer as it makes my face oilier. But I understand that my moisture is striped away after washing my face, so after experimenting around, this is the best moisturizer that I have ever used. Every other moisturizers makes my skin oily (I like to compare with Clinique's DDMG which is very oily for me), matte scientist is the only one that can hold on for a few hours. It absorbs instantly into my face and gives a silky smooth feeling.

If you've super duper oily skin, this is the moisturizer that can keep you matte for pretty much the whole day. But you'll have to use a good night cream in conjunction with this moisturizer though because this alone doesn't provide enough hydration.

Oh how I wanted to like this. Unfortunately, it just wasn't anything all that special and back to the store it went.
Pros: Absorbs super quick, leaves you looking matte initially, cute name
Cons: Didn't keep me matte for more than an hour or two tops, I broke out more than usual while using this product.

I bought this moisturizer for £18 at Harrods. It comes in a tiny heavy glass bottle. The lotion is a very runny white coloured liquid with a weird smell. Unfortunately, for me, it doesn't live up to its claim that it'll "subtract surplus shine and keep even the most oil-rich skin in check". My face is still as oily as ever but, the good thing is, it's definitely better at controlling oiliness compared to L'occitane's Ultra Matte Face Fluid which I received as a sample when I purchased L'occitane's Purifying Rice Toner. I'd buy Matte Scientist again if I do not come across better performing moisturizers!

I am always looking for mattifying products, but too bad, this one did not work for me. It came in a heavy glass (!?) bottle that was hard to control portions. It felt nice on my face, not at all drying or oily, but when I asked my family how it looked, they said my nose was still really shiney!

I bought this in hopes that it would moisturize and control oil. THIS DID NOT DO ANY GOOD AT CONTROLLING OIL AT ALL, IN FACT IT TOTALLY IRRITATED MY SKIN! I RETURNED THIS PRODUCT RIGHT AWAY!

I used to really like this before I experimented much with other mattifiers. It's stickier and harder to apply than most, but at least here are no negative side effects like breakouts and it feels good once it's on. It does mattify, but only for a few hours. I live in Texas and going outside pretty much nixes it. I bought my second bottle of this before I found Biore Shine Control Daily moisturizer for five bucks at the drugstore. I then had this $22 one and that $5 sitting in my drawer and never ended up reaching for this one except when I finally ran out of the other! Similar results and formulas, but I recommend Biore because it is cheaper and lasts longer.

I bought this thinking it would be a good lightweight moisturizer for my very-confused skin and super-shiny t-zone. Unfortunately, it didn't moisturize at all, and although my skin is oily, I need something more moisturizing for my dry, chapped cheeks. I imagine it would be great for very oily types that don't require a moisturizer, though.

I'm already on my third bottle, which says a lot because I like to experiment and has tried about everything out there. I like this for a variety of reasons, and I think this is overall the best for me when I try to compare this with other oil-control, BHA-containing moisturisers out there for oily skins. First of all, let me say that I come to this decision after trying others in the oil-control, BHA-containing category. The contenders are Kiehl's Blue Herbal Moisturizer, Biotherm Acnopur, Dermalogica Oil-Control Lotion, Murad (I forgot the name but it is a gel and contains Salicylic Acid too), Lancome Pure Focus, Estee Lauder Clear Difference, and this Origins Matte Scientist. In terms of long-lasting mattifying, the really effective ones are the Lancome, Estee Lauder, Dermalogica, and Origins Matte Scientist. Unfortunately, Dermalogica Oil-Control Lotion is really drying, doesnt seem to moisturise at all so I'm not sure if it can be considered a moisturiser. (it does, however, contain an impressive 1% Salicylic Acid, while most moisturizers contain only 0.5%)Estee Lauder is just a tad stinging to the skin, while Lancome is pricier than the Estee Lauder or Origins. Furthermore, Matte Scientist has some decent antioxidants and I can't say the same for the rest. Now, this one is a winner to me in every way.

Very awkward packaging in a glass bottle; I can't imagine carrying this around in a purse for quick touchups. It did work and helped control my shiney skin, but when I reapplied sunscreen my skin got all oily/shiney again.
